Barry Sanderson, the son of coaching legend Wimp Sanderson, will join
Dave Odom’s staff at Wake Forest this year. The former Georgia and
East Carolina assistant will officially join the Demon Deacons staff
July 1 — prior to the summer recruiting period.
Growing up in the shadow of a coaching legend helped Sanderson this
past season, as he took over for the legendary Don Meyer at NAIA
power, Lipscomb University. He succeeded Meyer, one of the most well
respected coaches in the game today, after a controversial rift
between Meyer and Lipscomb’s administration.
Sanderson coached the Bison to a 34-4 record and a TransSouth
Conference Championship. His team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the
NAIA national rankings and eventually ended their season in a third
round loss in the national tournament. Sanderson had compiled an 84-
25 coaching record in three seasons as the head coach at Mobile.
